Obituary

George DuRante Jr., age 76, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2026, just days before his 77th birthday. He was born on January 16, 1949, in New York City and spent his life between New York and Ocala, Florida.

George proudly served his country as a seaman in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, an experience that shaped his strong sense of duty, resilience, and loyalty.

A gifted mechanic with a natural talent for fixing almost anything, George worked at the United States Military Academy (West Point) as a mechanic and later built a career as an auto mechanic and tow truck operator. He was known for his willingness to help others, often assisting friends and family with car repairs and household projects, never hesitating to lend his skills or time.

George had a deep love for reading and a lifelong passion for building hot rods and motorcycles. Riding motorcycles brought him great joy and freedom. He was a true animal lover, especially devoted to dogs and horses, and was admired for his gentle nature and big heart.

He is survived by his partner, Roberta Elftman; former wife, Denise DuRante; his brother, Tom Owens; and his beloved sons, Adam DuRante, Billy DuRante, and Brian DuRante.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alice DuRante and George DuRante Sr., who are laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery.

George will be remembered for his mechanical brilliance, generous spirit, love of animals, and unwavering willingness to help those around him. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, craftsmanship, and quiet strength that will live on in all who knew and loved him.
