George A. Sellery George A. Sellery passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 17th at the Emory L. Bennett VA Nursing home in Daytona Beach, Florida at the age of 90. George was born and raised in Neligh, Nebraska; the son of Alfred and Mildred Sellery. He had one sibling; Helen L. Benson who preceded him in death. He attended public school in Neigh and was a member of the Neligh Warriors football team that went undefeated in 1944. Upon graduation with the class of 1945, George immediately joined the United States Navy, serving in the Pacific Theater until the end of World War II and faithfully served on both active duty and the reserves until 1952. George would tell everyone that he lived a great life punctuated by the fact that he always wanted to go fast. He was an accomplished pilot, rode motorcycles and was a very successful midget race car driver. He teamed with legendary midget race car owner Bob Lockard and drove throughout the greater Chicago area winning numerous main events and the 1957 UARA Championship. He was inducted into the Mazon Speed Bowl and Grundy County Speedway Hall of Fame in 2008. George retired as a Lead Mechanic for Trans World Airlines. He was a widower and the father of three children; George Sellery Jr., Carol Drafke and Deanne Rehberg. Nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive him. Baldwin Brothers of Ormond Beach is in charge of arrangements and the family will hold a private event in his honor. Anyone desiring may make a memorial donation in George's name to the Emory L. Bennett VA Nursing Home; 1920 Mason Avenue, Daytona Beach, FL, 32117.
