Gerald "Jerry" Marshall

Gerald "Jerry" Marshall, foodie, BBQ master, fisherman, wood worker, golfer, sports enthusiast, and umpire harasser died peacefully on Tuesday, April 12, 2016.

Jerry spent most of his Ohio childhood in a headlock applied by his older "much larger" brother Tedrick Marshall. Jerry was an accomplished high school athlete which led to a football scholarship to West Georgia College. He quickly lost interest in academics upon the purchase of his horse. You see, throughout Jerry's life he made it a habit to make large purchases in the name of fun. He later hung up his spurs upon his enlistment into the United States Navy.

Upon discharge from the Navy, he married Anne Gelder and together they celebrated the birth of their two children Jay Marshall and Micki Marshall Jamieson and made Port Orange their home. As a devoted family man, much of Jerry's time was spent in the stands of local sporting fields cheering on his children with a frosty beverage never far from reach. Jerry made sure that all umpires, referees, and sporting officials knew his opinion on every call.

Jerry spent most of his life as a salesman but mostly he gave away his kindness and sense of humor for free.

Jerry had a life long love affair with Jiff peanut butter, pretzel rods, pistachios, and fried-well anything fried. He had a passion for cooking and expressed his love for others through his BBQ grill. His family will forever mourn the loss of his Thanksgiving Feast and specifically his signature oyster casserole.

Jerry's life will continue to be celebrated by his children Jay Marshall and Micki Marshall Jamieson (Andrew Jamieson), his grandchildren Marlee, Danger, Liliana, his beloved dog Rosie, his devoted caregiver and lifelong friend Anne Marshall whom honored her commitment made over 40 years ago, and all others that knew him.

A Celebration of his life will be held at the Halifax Health Hospice Port Orange Care Center located at 3800 Woodbriar Trail on Friday, April 29th at 5:30pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Spruce Creek High School Athletic Department at 801 Taylor Road, Port Orange, Florida 32127
