Gerald E Ross's Obituary

Gerald Edwin Ross, "Jerry", 85, of Fort Myers passed away on November 12, 2018 at his home surrounded by family. Born June 6, 1933 in Cherokee, IA, he was the son of Donald A. Ross and Helen M. Axtman. He was a proud Korean War veteran and served aboard the USS Tolovana. His ship was involved in the evacuation of families who chose to leave communist North Vietnam following the Geneva Conference in 1953. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Jerry attended Dunwoody College of Technology in Minneapolis majoring in air conditioning and heating. Following graduation he worked until retirement as an engineering consultant for Oliver D. Billings and Associates of St Paul, MN. He was an original Minnesota Vikings season ticket holder and remained their avid fan. Jerry was formerly a resident of Minneapolis, Richfield, and Andover, MN. He was a member of St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Fort Myers and Epiphany Catholic Church in Coon Rapids, MN. He enjoyed the Heritage Cove Community where he lived and rarely missed Tuesday night bingo. Surviving are his sisters Patricia (Gerald) Crosby of Crosslake, MN, Neva (William) Donahue of Coon Rapids, MN and Donna (James) Butler of Fort Myers, FL and Nisswa, MN, his uncle Sebastian (Carol) Axtman of Fort Pierre, SD, nine nieces and nephews and their children, several cousins and friends. There will be a Celebration of Life in remembrance of Jerry at the Heritage Cove Community Center on Saturday, February 9th, 2019 from 2 to 4. Mass of Christian Burial at Epiphany Catholic Church, Coon Rapids, MN and burial at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis are planned for May 2019 with exact details coming later.
