Obituary

Geraldine Ann Van Luven, 80, of the Villages, Florida, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on March 29, 2025. Geraldine was born in Jamaica, New York on May 7, 1944 to Anna Mary and Joseph Pettit.  Her birth took place at Mary Immaculate Hospital, where her mother trained to be a registered nurse.  Geraldine was the first in her family to graduate college.  She earned her bachelor's from Cortland University and a master's degree, in Education, from Indiana University.  Geraldine's first job, following graduation, was at the University of Maryland's school of nursing, where she worked as the assistant to the dean.  Next, Geraldine became the first female corporate consultant for General Electric, in Connecticut.  That is where she met Martin Van Luven.  They married on September 8, 1973.  Together Geraldine and Martin had 3 daughters; Valerie, Mary and Peggy.  For many years, Geraldine enjoyed raising her young family and being a stay-at-home mom.  When the girls reached school age, Geraldine went to work as a kindergarten teacher.  Geraldine was passionate about her family and educating young students.  In 2005, Geraldine retired from teaching and moved to The Villages, Florida.  Geraldine was a proud member of The Education Forum, Tutors for Kids, and the Village Democrats.

Geraldine was extremely proud of her family.  She is survived by her husband, Martin Van Luven; as well as their three daughters, and seven grandchildren: Valerie Van Luven, Mary Van Luven, Peggy Whitworth, Riley Loveday, Ryan Loveday, Elizabeth Loveday, Lucas Whitworth, Jack Whitworth, Ellie Whitworth and Ozzy Glaser.  She was predeceased by her parents Anna Mary and Joseph Pettit, and her brother, Robert Pettit.

A Celebration of Life will be held at The Sea Breeze Recreation Center on June 14 th at 2:30pm.  Sea Breeze is located at 2384 Buena Vista Blvd., The Villages, Florida.
