Obituary

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Gerard “Jerry” Goddu, who passed away peacefully on June 25, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Jerry was born on May 23, 1941, in Lowell, Massachusetts. As a young man, he attended trade school, where he trained as a machinist before discovering his true calling as a master plumber. Seeking sunshine and new opportunities, Jerry moved his family to Ormond Beach, Florida, where he built a life and called home for the next 55 years.

Jerry dedicated more than 25 years of service to the City of Ormond Beach, retiring as Chief Building Inspector. Throughout his career, he earned the respect of colleagues and residents alike for his knowledge, integrity, strong work ethic, and commitment to serving his community. He also earned numerous professional certifications and credentials in plumbing, construction, building inspection, and code enforcement, reflecting his dedication to his profession and commitment to excellence.

Outside of work, Jerry enjoyed the things that brought him happiness. He was an avid NASCAR fan who rarely missed a race, spent many years league bowling, loved camping and boating with family and friends, and always enjoyed a good game of Texas Hold’em.

Many of our favorite memories with Dad were made outdoors. Summers spent camping and boating on Lake Kerr, family days at the beach, and camping vacations throughout the East Coast created memories that will be cherished for generations. Those moments of laughter, adventure, and togetherness remain among the greatest gifts he gave his family.

Jerry was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Frances Goddu.

He is survived by his children, Gerard F. Goddu, Bridgette Saleeby (Kameel), Michelle Peck (Matthew), Timothy Goddu, and Jenny Laack (Michael); 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; along with extended family and friends.

Jerry will be remembered for his strong work ethic, practical wisdom, quiet determination, and the life he built through decades of service to his profession and community. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.

A memorial service celebrating Jerry’s life will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Troutman Funeral Home in Troutman, North Carolina. Family and friends are invited to join the family for a meal and fellowship immediately following the service.
