Gilbert Louis Gyarmati, 86 of Summerfield, Florida past peacefully on Friday, January 30, 2026 surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on May 17, 1939, in Detroit, Michigan and grew up in Lincoln Park, Michigan.
He graduated from Lincoln Park High School in 1957 and was proud to serve as Class President. High school is where he met the love of his life, Judy. They married on June 14, 1958, and had 68 wonderful years together. Gilbert worked for Sears Roebuck and company, retiring after 34 years of service. After retirement, Gil and Judy moved to Coldwater, Michigan, where they spent 17 years before relocating to Summerfield, Florida.
His hobbies included boating. He was a longtime member of the Wyandotte Yacht Club in Wyandotte, Michigan, where he served two wonderful years as Fleet Captain. Other hobbies included, golfing, trap, clay, and target, shooting, sports cars, and car detailing. At the age of 80, Gil decided to get his ham radio license and enjoyed his nights on the radio. Gil’s passion was his family and friends. He loved talking for hours to everyone. His love for his family was on the top of his list, always being the watchdog over all of them.
Gilbert is survived by his wife of 68 years Judith Gyarmati; son Michael (Diane) Gyarmati; daughter Lynette Opra; grandchildren Matthew (Nicole) Gyarmati, Lisa (Ben) Barrett; great- grandchildren Josiah and Tanner. He is proceeded in death by his parents Gabor and Julia Gyarmati; and sister Mary Lee Shotwell.
It was Gilbert’s wish to be cremated without public service. His family request that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Association.
