Gilbert Henry Iles, 86, of Punta Gorda, passed away January 20, 2020, at Harbor Terrace in Port Charlotte, FL. Born June 30, 1933 in Queens, NY., he was the son of Henry Wellington Iles and Marie Fitzpatrick. Gilbert proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army from 1957 to 1963. He later operated his own job placement agency prior to retirement. He and his wife relocated to Southwest Florida from Nutley, N.J. in 1995. Gilbert was an active member of the Isles Yacht Club, and enjoyed tennis, sailing, and chess. Surviving are his daughter Catherine Iles – Semel of Richmond, VA., granddaughter Sierra Semel of Williamsburg, VA., grandson David Semel of Richmond, VA., son Wells Iles of Richmond, VA., daughter in law Brenda Iles of Richmond, VA., son in law Ron Semel of Richmond, VA., partner Marcia Clark of Punta Gorda, FL., former wife Cathy Iles of Richmond, VA., and cousin Rita Clancy of Wayne, N.J. Gilbert will be laid to rest at Sarasota National Cemetery on Monday, January 27, 2020, at 2:30 pm with military honors.
