Gladys Estelle Simmons Brooks, 93, passed away peacefully at Cornerstone Hospice House in Sumterville, FL on July 10, 2026.

She was preceded in death by her husband Garland A. Brooks, brother Thomas B. Simmons, and her parents Henry & Rosa Simmons.

Mrs. Brooks is survived by her son Kenneth (Coral) Childrey, daughter Cathy Spivey, stepchildren, Mark (Connie) Brooks, Judy (Kenny) Bishop, Victoria (Bragg) Simmons, Sandra (David) Comer, and Kimberly Brooks. Also, her sister-in-law Betty Simmons.

She was blessed with 17 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Brooks was born in South Boston, VA and moved to FL in 1959. She was a wonderful NANA! Also known for her love of cooking big meals for her family to visit. We all knew that a visit with her brought lots of laughter and a wonderful time had by everyone. She got great joy baking cookies, cakes, pies & other goodies to share with neighbors, friends & family. She will be greatly missed by all who know and love her.

A private service at Black Walnut Cemetery, Cluster Springs, Virginia, will be scheduled later.
