April 22, 1937 – December 18, 2024
Glenda Jean (Hagaman) Barnes, age 87, of FL, passed away peacefully on the morning of December 18, 2024, in Ocala, FL. Born on April 22, 1937, in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of the late Corwain Hagaman and Madge (Hughes) Hagaman, and was an only child.
Glenda attended Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis, where she involved herself in a verity of clubs and extracurricular activities, and is where she met her future husband, Norman Barnes. They married in 1957, went on to raise three girls, and were married for 67 years. Glenda's professional career primarily consisted of bookkeeping and office administration duties, with most of her service spent at Allison Transmission in Indianapolis, as well as with the Indiana End Stage Renal Disease Network program.
Over the years, Glenda developed and nurtured her passion of square dancing, with her husband, Norman. She had a deep interest in music, with a couple of her favorite artists being The Statler Brothers and Elvis Presley. Glenda treasured long-lasting relationships, especially that of her best friend, Judi Sullivan, whom Glenda maintained lasting friendship with for over 70 years. Glenda stayed competitive and physically active throughout her life, and greatly enjoyed activities like bingo and shuffleboard. She was a devout Christian, and was a member of the Ocala West United Methodist Church in Ocala, FL. She especially cherished spending time with her family and friends, and always held a deep appreciation for the "little things" in life.
Glenda is survived by her children, Debra Barnes, Betsy Smith, and Pamela Wheatley; and her grandchildren Megan Wheatley, Jaqueline (Smith) Manneck, Christopher Wheatley, and Levi Smith. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Norman Barnes.
