Obituary

Born in Chattanooga, Tennessee to Grace and Glenn Rankin. Glenna grew up as an only child in Orlando, Florida. Her father, Glenn, owned a small grocery store on Shine Ave. near downtown Orlando and her mother, Grace, taught English in Orange County Public Schools. Glenna graduated from Edgewater High School (as did her sons and where husband Norman became principal) and went on to earn her bachelors from Stetson University, where she was active in Alpha Epsilon Delta Service Organization.

Glenna taught elementary school in Orange County Public Schools for over 25 years, helping young children learn and grow. She really treasured being part of young children's lives. It was in school that Glenna met our dad, C. Norman Kent, Jr, a principal. She married Norman and became our mom in June of 1969. We didn't know it then, but our lives had changed for the better. She took on the challenge of raising two young boys with all her heart, mind and soul.

Glenna was very active. She loved playing tennis, riding her bike, hanging with her Girls Club (Carol, Jeane, Joanie, Melaney, Gisele, Betsy and Lisa) for over 30 years, and working in her yard. She loved her many dogs over the years and all the dogs in the neighborhood. They all knew to stop at the side door and see Glenna to get a treat. New College Park neighbors were welcomed with her signature lemon bundt cake.

Glenna had a great deal of style and spunk. She was known for getting her hair done with a streak of blue or purple. She loved dragonflies because they symbolize light, joy, swiftness, and free spirit, and after telling us we couldn't get tattoos, she got a dragonfly tattoo at age 62. That was Mom. She was colorful, kind, honest and loved life and laughter, and being with family and friends. She never met a stranger.

Mom said she had no regrets, but growing up, we did get a few of the "Mom" Looks. She also said she was fairly certain that given a cape and nice tiara she could save the world. We know she would've, too.

Glenna R. Kent joined her husband and the many furry souls that had gone on ahead in heaven the morning of March 20, 2023, and is survived by son, C. Norman (Chip) Kent, III (Ginny), granddaughters Kaitlyn E. Kent and Kristyn H. Kent and son, Kevin C. Kent (Brent). She is also survived by countless other friends that became family, Mary Lowndes Poole, Lynne Mixson, Annamaria Van Aswegen and Ken and Leanne Paquin to name a few of the many.

In lieu of flowers, please donate in Glenna Kent's name, to a Pet Rescue or Charity of your choice.
