Obituary

Gordon D. Lawson "Pop" age 88 met his Lord and Savior on June 23, 2025, surrounded by his loving family listening to his favorite song "The Lord's Prayer".

Gordon was a lifetime member of Louis Street Baptist Church.  He was a 1955 graduate of Glencoe High School, Glencoe, AL and later attended Gadsden State.  He retired from Gulf States Steel after 46 years of service.  One of his passions was Alabama High School Athletics where he officiated numerous sports for over 20 years. After relocating to The Villages, Florida in 2001; his love of golf led him to work as a starter for Lopez Legacy Country Club where he worked for 20 years.

Gordon is survived and married to Betty Hayes Lawson (Mrs. America as he fondly called her) on December 9, 1955.  They were the love and joy of each other's lives for 70 years.  He has three children who adore him Lisa Lawson-Hincy, Gina Lawson Locklear, and Scott Lawson.  Survivors also include his loving grandchildren Megan Monroe (Andrew), Derek Locklear (Kayla) along with great grandchildren Malin Elizabeth Monroe, Kyla Jolene Allen, his namesake Lawson Josiah Locklear, and son in law, Jeff Hincy.  Gordon was born in Ft Payne, Alabama on October 4, 1936, to William Grover Lawson and Vera Bloodworth Lawson.  He is also preceded in death by his five siblings Betty Jean Breeden, W.G. Lawson Jr, Sybil Kirby, Una Ree Chapman, and Gary Lawson.

Gordon was a selfless, loving man who never met a stranger.  He loved to share his faith in Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit, tell his life stories, spending time at the beach, golf, travel, and enjoyed watching sports especially Alabama Football or Basketball.  Above all, he loved his family, took great care of his wife Betty and children.  He will remain in our hearts forever.  Per our father's wishes there will be no funeral service but a celebration with immediate family.  Arrangements entrusted with BALDWIN BROTHERS Funeral & Cremation Society-Spanish Springs, 352-430-1449.  Sentiments are encouraged at www.baldwincremation.com .
