IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gregory
Kelley
December 16, 1961 – March 23, 2023
Gregory James Kelley (aka "MacGyver"), formally of Sunapee, NH passed away in Daytona, FL on 23 March 2023 after a very brief battle with pancreatic cancer. Greg was born 16 December 1961 in Webster, Iowa to parents Elmer Kelly and Geraldine Mansfield. He leaves behind his best friend and soulmate of 23 years Sheila Thomas Whitcomb, his son Shane Kelley and his wife Kristy, and the apple of his eye grandson Everett of Manchester, NH. He is also survived by his mother Gerri and her current husband Richard Reed of Saxtons River VT, his sister Michelle Farell, her husband Sean, niece Paige and nephew Burke. Also leaving behind Tyler Whitcomb and his wife Mandy and surrogate grandchildren, Fiona and Owen of Underhill VT, as well as his extended Thomas family that loved him so much and so graciously came to Daytona to help Sheila care for Greg the last few months.
Greg was the kindest, most gentle, modest, caring, honest, selfless person anyone could ever know. He was a very creative soul which made him stand out above the rest in his career as builder and mason… thus why all his clients respected him so much. MacGyver could fix, build, design anything and everything, especially when obstacles were present. Greg always said he learned at lot from Steve Moore while employed by him for most of his 20's and 30's and living in Bellows Falls, VT. He then took his knowledge and experience to a higher level when he moved to Sunapee and started his own business in the late 90's.
When Greg retired 4 years ago, he and Sheila bought a motorhome and began exploring this great, vast country we live in… kayaking, biking and hiking coast to coast, mountains, valleys and rivers, so many national parks, continuously learning, always a direction but not necessarily a destination. Letting the wind blow them with a motto of "you don't always need a plan – just go" and theme song that played each time they hit the road "Starting Over" by Chris Stapleton. Greg was a huge outdoor enthusiast, loved hunting and fishing, and fortunately he had the opportunity to enjoy every minute and location of their journey (albeit expected to have many more years of exploration on the road).
A private celebration of Greg's life will be held when returning to NH.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Everett's college fund (Greg's grandson) at: https://go.fidelity.com/br0nc1
