Obituary

Hans-Hubertus von Zittwitz was beloved husband of Carol, father of Alex, brother of Rottraut, Hannelore, Claus-Uwe, twin sister Edelgard and uncle to many nieces and nephews. Hans was pre-deceased by sister Brigitte and brother Ruediger. He was the son of the late Gerhard and Margarethe von Zittwitz.

Hans passed away peacefully on October 30, 2026, at Lifecare Center of Estero, age 76, after a long illness of Parkinsonism.

Hans was born on Dec 17, 1949, in Lemgo, Germany. The family immigrated to Canada when Hans was one year old and later, they moved to Royal Oak, Mi. He graduated with an Associate Degree in Accounting. Soon after, he and a friend partnered in a local moving company and later, after marrying Carol, he started his own Brighton Van Lines, acquiring permits to move residential goods interstate. Shortly after Alex’ birth the family moved to Fort Myers, Florida for sunshine and new adventures.

Hans enjoyed fast cars and boats. For a few years he owned a boat and he and Alex would go fishing. And sometimes he would have friends along to go skiing. He was known in the neighborhood for hosting the Memorial Day “Hog Whole”. In the summer, Hans would head up to the Hunt Camp in Michigan and put his skills to work there, adding solar panels, building shelters, trimming trees and stacking wood for the fall when he and his buddies would be there for deer season. Hans enjoyed reading both fiction (especially westerns) and non-fiction almost as much as music. He especially enjoyed Rock n Roll from the 60’s and 70’s. He’d set up his music, start a campfire, invite friends and make quite an evening out of it.

Hans was proud of the Handyman Business he established. He volunteered his time and talent to friends, family members and various organizations. At Summit Christian School where Alex attended, he helped build sets for plays and worked on many other projects. Hans enjoyed his workshop, building furniture, a 2-story treehouse and working on other jobs for himself and neighbors. You could also find him in his garden or in the kitchen preparing a meal for the family.

The funeral service will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 9065 Ligon Ct, Ft Myers, Fl 33908, Sat. Nov 14th, 2026, at 10:30am. Interment will take place in Rodney, Ontario, Canada sometime in the Spring of 2027.

As we say goodbye to this remarkable man, we carry his memory in our hearts, forever grateful for the time we shared.

Until we meet again ~
