Harold “Butch” Houdeshell, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on October 26, 2026, at the age of 82.
Butch grew up in the Fostoria, Ohio, area and was a graduate of Lakota High School. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps before earning his bachelor’s degree from the University of Findlay. Throughout his life, he was guided by a love of family, sports, friendship, and adventure.
Butch began his career in education and athletics as a high school teacher and football coach at Liberty-Benton High School and Bryan High School. He later transitioned into the insurance industry, where he spent the majority of his professional career as a partner at Walter’s & Peck Insurance Agency. Through his work, he built lasting relationships and friendships that extended well beyond the workplace.
In January 2007, Butch and his wife, Sandra, moved to The Villages, Florida, where he embraced a new chapter filled with sunshine, golf, travel, and wonderful friendships. He especially enjoyed relaxing on the porch, sharing stories and laughter, and dancing with the many friends who made life in The Villages so special.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, Butch had a deep passion for golf and was a devoted Ohio State football fan. He also cherished fishing and spending time in Port Clinton, Ohio, enjoying the beauty and traditions of Lake Erie. Whether traveling to new places, cheering on the Buckeyes, enjoying a round of golf, or simply gathering with friends, Butch had a way of appreciating life’s simple pleasures and turning everyday moments into lasting memories.
Above all, Butch treasured his family and the many relationships he built throughout his life. His warmth, easygoing nature, sense of camaraderie, and love of life left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sandra Houdeshell, of The Villages, Florida; his daughters, Kristie (Dave) Greutman, of Defiance, Ohio, and Amy (Scott) Molnar, of Perrysburg, Ohio; step-son Marty (Sheryl) Gowins of The Villages, Florida; and his grandsons, Brandon (Emily) Franklin, Austin Greutman, Griffin (Kailyn) Pollock, and Nate Molnar. He also leaves behind his cherished great-grandsons, Brooks Franklin, Daxton Pollock, and Barrett Pollock, who brought an extra measure of joy to his life. Butch is also survived by his sisters, Sharon (Martin) Still, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, and Geraldine Hauenstein, of Findlay, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, Adron and Madeline Houdeshell, and his brother, Dr. James (Mira) Houdeshell, of Findlay, Ohio.
Butch leaves behind a lifetime of memories, countless friendships, and a family who will forever cherish the time they shared with him. His love of sports, laughter, adventure, and, most importantly, the people in his life will remain an enduring part of his legacy. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
