Harold Vernon McIntosh

The Artist Hal McIntosh passed away on February 22 nd leaving behind a rich history and body of work for us to enjoy.  Born in 1927 he was interested in art from an early age and began his formal studies at the Detroit Art Institute and Toledo Museum.  At 18 he was honored as the youngest-ever artist in residence at the Art Research Studio, now the Maitland Art Center.  He earned a Masters of Fine Arts from The University of Michigan after serving in the Navy during WWII.  Apprenticed to renown Artists Jerry Farnsworth and Helen Sawyer he discovered a passion for Cape Cod MA and has maintained a summer cottage and studio there since 1951.  A talented teacher he was Director of the Lynchburg Virginia Fine Arts Center, taught at Loch Haven Art Center and ran his own School of Art in Winter Park for 25 years.  A founding member of the Winter Park Art Festival with 40 one-man-shows from Naples FL to Central FL to Cape Cod his portraits, abstracts, landscapes, seascapes, florals, and fishes grace numerous public and private collections. He has been recently recognized as an Art Legend of Orange County. The families of his nephews Dr. David L. McIntosh and D. Byron McIntosh, niece Ms. Loren M. Baker, sister-in-law Mrs. Jean McIntosh, cousin Chuck McIntosh, partner Eric Varty, and his legacy of fine art survive this kind and caring gentleman.
