Obituary

Harriet Lou Forster Dinker, 88, of New Smyrna Beach, died peacefully in her home April 11, 2018. She was born to the late Lena M. & Henry W. Forster on June 18, 1929, in Baltimore, Maryland. Harriet graduated from Eastern High School in 1946 and received a BA in History from Goucher College in 1950. Harriet was married to the late Milford (Dink) H. Dinker, Jr, her beloved fishing partner of 59 years. She enjoyed her brief career as a teacher, which she continued as a substitute while also raising a family. Harriet lived throughout the US before moving to New Smyrna Beach, where she was an involved member of the community. A voracious reader, she logged countless hours as a volunteer with the New Smyrna Beach library, exercised her green thumb as a member of the New Smyrna Beach Garden Club, and was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Harriet was also an engaged member of the Smyrna Yacht Club; she served as President of SYC Ladies in 1996, was a distinguished SYC Century member, and her rendition of Kate Smith's 'God Bless America' will never be forgotten. Harriet's lucky and warm-hearted nature was unmissable to all who knew her. Whether it be at a Bingo table, slots at the Cape May boardwalk, the canasta table, or just scratch Lotto tickets in stockings at Christmas, good fortune always seemed to find her. Harriet is survived by her three children: Milford (Chip) H. Dinker, III of New Smyrna Beach; Robin D. (Ed) Culbertson of Chicago; and Holly D. (James) Hancock of Greenbelt, and five grandchildren: Sarah C. (James) Nau of Seattle; Milford (Chipper) H. Dinker, IV of New Smyrna Beach; Edward (Andy) A. (Reagan) Culbertson of Arlington Heights; Brian J.  Dinker of Port Orange; and Gretchen E. (Chris) Shepard of Oconomowoc. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren and many wonderful nieces, nephews, and in-laws. Harriet, Mom, Mimi, the fish are a bit luckier with your line reeled in, and the heavens are a lot brighter. We love you. Her family wishes to thank the many people whose thoughtful care and compassion is immeasurable: CNA Laurie Kuiphoff; Allan Liebman & Mary Loftus of Halifax Hospice; Nancy Meddis; James Jenkins; Sue Brophy; and Kathy & Dick Hill. A service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Baldwin Brothers Funeral Home in New Smyrna Beach.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to:
