Obituary

Harvey Butler, formerly of Rolling Meadows, IL, passed away peacefully at his home in Mt. Dora, FL on January 1, 2020 with his loving wife Freda by his side. He was born in 1931 in Toronto, Canada. He worked for the Toronto Transit Commission and then Household Finance. In 1965, he was transferred to Chicago with Household International. After 37 years, he retired from Household as Director of Strategic Planning.

He was an active man who enjoyed traveling, sailing, playing tennis, golf, and handball and enjoying the great outdoors at his Wisconsin cottage. Later in life, Harv sustained a life-changing spinal cord injury, resulting in paraplegia. Rather than focusing what he could no longer do, he refocused his energies in new directions, taking up watercolor painting, volunteering as an AARP Tax Preparer and publishing a monthly newsletter for Household retirees for the past twenty years. Harv lived with dignity and grace and was a role model for living with a disability.

Harvey was the devoted and caring husband of Freda Butler, with whom he celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in August 2019, surrounded by family and friends. He is survived by Freda, his children David (Kimberly) Butler of Eden Prairie, MN, Michael (Jeana) Butler of Inverness, IL, Susan (Jon) Erickson of Inverness, IL, grandchildren Nicholas, Jennifer, and Thomas Butler, and Kyle, Sean, and Luke Erickson, and his sister Joan Cuff and brother Bert Butler.

Donations in Harv's memory can be made to his favorite charity, The Salvation Army, at www.salvationarmyusa.org .
