Helen Jane (Hartfiel) Comfort, 92, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2024 at Harbour Health Center in Port Charlotte, FL. She was born June 25, 1932 in St. Paul, MN to the late William F. and Helen Marie (Figge) Hartfiel.
Helen attended the University of Minnesota where she was a member of the Alpha Phi sorority, receiving a bachelors degree in English. She met James Comfort on a western ski trip, and they were married in 1956. Over the years, Helen and James lived in St. Paul (MN), Hudson (WI), and Punta Gorda/Port Charlotte (FL).
Helen loved life as a homemaker in support of James' business. She enjoyed hosting many family and friends gatherings over the years, numerous activities including traveling, bird watching, photography, and boating with James. She liked gardening and was a member of the St Paul Garden Club and Hudson Home and Garden Club. Prior to moving to Punta Gorda in 1999, Helen and James lived on a sailboat for three years while traveling the eastern U.S. Intercoastal Waterway from Punta Gorda, FL to the Maine coast – with periodic extended lodgings in spots that caught their interest along the way.
Helen is survived by her husband, James, children Carol Comfort (Lowell) Hill, Janet Lee, James (Ann) Comfort, brother and special friend William (Helen) Hartfiel, sister-in-law Mary Sue Comfort, four grandchildren, and three great grandchildren, along with extended families.
She was preceded in death by her parents William F. and Helen Marie Hartfiel, and brother-in-law Thomas Comfort.
Memorials preferred to Peace River Audubon Society (Charlotte Co., FL), St Paul Garden Club (St. Paul, MN), or donor's choice.
Private interment at Roselawn Cemetery, St. Paul, MN
