Obituary

Helen McEvoy Coupard passed away peacefully on June 3, 2026, at the age of 91.

Born on September 29, 1934, in Washington, D.C., Helen was the daughter of the late James McEvoy and Lillian King McEvoy. After the death of her father when she was just three years old, Helen and her older sisters, Lillian Kibler and Ethel Parker, both of whom preceded her in death, were raised by their mother in the Takoma Park area of Washington, D.C. The three sisters were close and shared many adventures exploring their neighborhood and other parts of the city.

Helen graduated from Coolidge High School in 1952 and later attended D.C. Teachers College. In 1955, she married the late William R. Coupard, and the couple made their home in Maryland.

A devoted mother, Helen dedicated herself to raising her four children: Karen J. Ramsburg, who preceded her in death; Mark A. Coupard (Debbie); David C. Coupard (Sonja); and Bryan D. Coupard (Staci). Her children benefited greatly from her unwavering love, guidance, and attention. Helen was also blessed with 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She took immense pride in each of them and cherished being involved in their lives. When distance prevented visits, she delighted in hearing about their accomplishments and everyday experiences. Helen lived in her Rockville, Maryland home for 57 years before relocating to Florida in 2014.

Throughout her life, Helen worked a variety of part-time jobs, including telephone operator, school bus driver, cafeteria worker, and nursing home aide. However, her primary vocation was caring for her family and creating a loving, safe, and welcoming home. She spent countless hours driving her children and their friends to activities and was up for anything that enriched their childhoods, within reason and budget, Helen's deepest personal commitment was her faith as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Baptized in 1969, she faithfully followed that path for the remainder of her life. She believed deeply in sharing her faith and devoted countless hours to doing so.

Helen was known for her gift of making people feel better about themselves. Whether complimenting someone's work, appearance, or character, she found joy in brightening another person's day. Her kindness, generosity of spirit, and beautiful, infectious smile left a lasting impression on friends and strangers alike. She continued to share that smile almost to the very end. Helen was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A memorial service will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1891 4th Street, Orlando, FL on June 27, 2026, at 2:00 PM. Arrangements are under the direction of Baldwin Brothers Funeral and Cremation Society, Orlando, Florida.
