Obituary

Helen H. Gustafson passed away early Wednesday morning March 12, 2025.

For over a century, Helen experienced a rich life in a rapidly changing world.

Born in Coventry RI, on April 20, 1924, Helen may be best remembered for her loyalty and her service. She served her country in the Navy during WWII and served her community as the librarian at Coventry Public Library. Helen's curiosity led her to enjoy experimenting with the latest gadgets. She even taught herself to program and, as librarian, she created a barcode system for book checkout and return. In 1976, Helen authored Reflections of Coventry's Yesterdays, a historical account of the town. While caring for her family, her parents, her in-laws, and her children, Helen also shared a love of boats and the ocean with her husband, Warren (Gus). Driven by these passions, they retired to New Smyrna Beach, Florida.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Richard Evans and Minnie Bommely Evans, brothers, Donald and Carl, sister, Alice, husband, Warren, and their son, Eric. She is survived by their son, David (Janna), daughter, Heidi (Jonathan Mies), grandchildren, Ana, Jill, Shawna, Kara, Ben, and Logan, and great grandchildren, Miles, Lily, Charlie, JD, and Savannah.
