Helen R Makel 85 of NY, NY reached out and peacefully took the hand of Jesus on November 7, 2020. She was born on July 12, 1935 in Summerton South Carolina to William and Gertrude (Stukes) Regan. Helen enjoyed her childhood in Manhattan NY. She loved telling us about growing up on "100 st". She was beautiful. She was energetic, athletic and enjoyed cooking and sewing. At 22 years of age Helen met Walter H Makel Sr. while working at Bronx Lebanon Hospital, Fulton division. They later married on February 22, 1958. Helen enjoyed a thirty plus year career at Bronx Lebanon Hospital, Concourse division. She was adept, skillful and sharp. She mentored many. She excelled and was promoted through the years. She retired as a medical record technician. Helen had an intuitive and compassionate nature. She had a strong commitment to her family. Her spirit was authentic, honest, fierce and protective. Helen is survived by her 5 children. Sheila R Phillips of Pensacola, Fl, Ronald Regan of Edison, NJ, Walter H Makel Jr of Bx, NY, Clinton W Makel of Bx NY, and Judy-Ann L Horton of Clermont Fl, daughter in law Dina Regan, son in law Glenn E Horton, 17 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren 1 great great grandchild due in December, sisters Dorothy Regan, Teresa Regan, Norma Regan, Edith Regan, brother Lavern Regan, sister in law Barbara Regan and a host of aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. Helen is also survived by her dearest friends, her second family, Ms. Beverley DacresGray, Ms. Saundra L. Maynard, Ms Betty McCoy, and Ms Aida Morales. Helen is proceeded in death by her husband Walter H Makel Sr. and daughter Joanne D Makel, sister Eleanor Brooks, brother John Regan and brother and sister in law William and Betty Regan. Helen was a loving dedicated mother and grandmother. She was caring, playful, strong, confident, intelligent, fair, no nonsense, and proud of being a mother and grandmother. We are thankful to God for her life. We are Blessed to have had Helen R Makel for our Mom. We are her legacy. She instilled in us to love family, encourage family, support family, take care of family and remember no matter where you go in life you have a family to come home to. We love you Mom. You will always be in our hearts.
