Helen "Jackie" Simmons, age 89, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on July 4 ^th , 2022 at Oceanview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in NSB. She was born in Woodbury, N.J. on April 7, 1933 to the late Jacob K. Tryon and Nellie Bray Tryon. She had fond memories of her childhood growing up in Pitman, N.J. with her four sisters: Amelia, Jean, Ann and Shirley.

After graduation from Pitman High School in 1950, Helen enlisted and proudly served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War as a Teletype Operator. She was stationed at Hickam AFB in Hawaii where she met and married Wiley L. Simmons, Jr.

She was a hard worker and was employed as a secretary/office manager in city, government, and civil service positions. Her passions included spending time with family, traveling and gardening.

She is survived by her sisters, Ann Schneider of Eustis, Fl. and Shirley Hotsinpiller of Ft. Walton Bch., Fl, her daughter, Cindy Durkos, her son, Dan Simmons, her grandchildren Andrew Burgess and Emily Simmons, as well as her four great grandchildren, Kierra, Carter, Penelope and Rowan.

A celebration of life will be held at Baldwin Brothers on Friday, July 15, 2022 between 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm
