Obituary

Helen Marie Marlatt Stempkowski, affectionately known as GiGi, departed this world on January 11, 2024, in Leesburg, Florida. Born on January 21, 1938, in Hammond, Indiana, she lived a life filled with love, dedication, and a zest for adventure. Helen was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, leaving a void that will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Her legacy includes a rich career as an educator, where she devoted 20 years of her life to Seminole County Public Schools. Helen's passion for teaching left an indelible mark on the lives of her students, reflecting her commitment to shaping future generations. Beyond her professional pursuits, Helen embraced life with enthusiasm. She had an insatiable love for travel, exploring new places with a spirit of curiosity. Her involvement in her children's lives was marked by love and dedication. Music, especially Elvis, held a special place in her heart, and her voice resonated in the church choir, adding a melodic touch to her life.

Helen's lifelong journey was intertwined with that of her devoted husband, James Stempkowski. Fondly known as Stem, their story began at a young age, evolving into a beautiful lifetime of shared joy and adventures. The couple relocated to Central Florida in 1968, building a home filled with love, laughter, and sunshine, raising their family and creating lasting memories.

Survived by her loving daughters Tracy Seely (Doug) and Alicia Rivers, Helen leaves behind a legacy of family and connection. Her memory lives on through her grandsons Chris Sherman (Dana), Lee Rivers, Jacob Rivers, Jakson Seely, Bryan Seely, and Zak Seely, and granddaughters Skye Rivers and Anya Seely. Her great-grandson, Liam Sherman, will carry forward the essence of GiGi's warmth and love.

Helen was preceded in death by her father Harold Marlatt, mother Helen O'Rourke Marlatt, sister Patricia Ann Marlatt Hendron, brother William Ronald Marlatt, and sister Gloria Jean Marlatt Beckman.

Helen's faith was a cornerstone of her being, guiding her through life's journey with grace and resilience. Her spiritual convictions provided a source of strength and comfort to those around her. Her unwavering belief was not only a personal anchor but also a beacon of light for her family and friends.

A Celebration of Life, honoring Helen's remarkable journey, will take place on March 2 at the Royal Highlands Community Center. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to a charity of your choice in Helen's name.

As we navigate this difficult time, let us remember the joy and love that Helen brought into our lives. May her soul find eternal peace, and may her memory continue to inspire and guide us all.
