Herbert A. Soper passed peacefully from this earth on July 2, 2017, at the age of 87. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA, on June 14, 1930, and spent his formative years in Pittsburgh, PA, and Syracuse, NY. He was a graduate of Syracuse University, served honorably in the US Army, and spent a long career as a Aerospace Mechanical Engineer. His professional life was highlighted by his work with NASA, in the creation of gyroscopes for the Mercury and Apollo spacecrafts. A resident of New Smyrna Beach, Herb is survived by his son Jeff and daughter-in-law Judy, of New Smyrna Beach, Grandsons, Kyle and Rick, as well as sisters Sally Thoe, of Alma, MI, and Elaine Marshall, of Clarksville, GA.. He was pre-deceased in death, by his parents Herbert SR., and Adelaide, as well as his son, Steve.  Arrangements are under the care of Baldwin Brothers (1 North Causeway) in New Smyrna Beach. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Saturday July 8th, at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation in Herb's name, to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).
