Rev. Hollis A. Whitaker

Rev. Hollis A. Whitaker, born October 1, 1944, in Rockledge, Florida, passed away on September 18, 2026, in Titusville, Florida, surrounded by his beloved family as they sang serval songs including ones that the Lord had given him to write.

Hollis was preceded in death by his parents, Eric and Viola Whitaker; his brother, William Whitaker; and his son, Joshua Whitaker.

Hollis spent his early years in Titusville, Florida, before attending Gordon Military College in Barnesville, Georgia, where he graduated from high school in 1962. He then returned to Florida and continued his studies at Brevard Community College, earning his Associate of Arts degree in 1964.

In January 1966, Hollis enlisted in the United States Air Force. Just a few months later, in June, he married the love of his life, Sherry Blalock Whitaker. Together, they began their married life in Denver, Colorado, where Hollis was stationed at Lowry Air Force Base. During his military service, he went on to serve tours of duty in both Korea and Vietnam.

Following his military service, Hollis continued his education at William Carey College, earning his bachelor's degree in 1971. Answering God's call to ministry, he later earned his Master of Divinity from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. In addition to his ministry, Hollis served his community for many years as a probation and parole officer in Brevard County.

Hollis devoted his life to serving the Lord and others through his ministry. Over the years, he served and pastored churches in Mississippi, Tennessee, Florida, and Indiana, faithfully sharing the Gospel and caring for those entrusted to his ministry. He was an avid gardener, loved all nature, and John Deere tractors. He loved to fish and taught his grandkids how to bait and cast a line. His faith in Jesus Christ was at the center of his life and remained steadfast throughout his years. He daily prayed for his family, the peace of Jerusalem and his country, He also had the privilege of baptizing all of his 5 children and most of his grandchildren.

He is survived by Sherry, his loving wife of 60 years; his children, MaryAynn (Bill) Davis, Corrie (Mike) Ferguson, Samuel (Jackie) Whitaker, and Sarah (Doug) King; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild, with another great-grandchild on the way.

After a lifetime of faith, service, and devotion to the Lord and his family, Hollis is now in the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. His life and legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
