Obituary

Hon. Clifford Hoover Yorks, Jr. born May 23, 1936, died peacefully at his home in Summerfield, FL early in the morning of April 7,2024. He would have been 88 years old on his birthday. Born in Bellefonte, PA to Clifford H. Yorks and Ella Dann Yorks, he was a 1954 graduate of Bellefonte High School. Upon graduation he worked for Penn State University. He enlisted in the United State Air Force in 1961, serving in Berlin, Germany during the Berlin Airlift as an Air Policeman until his discharge in 1964. After his service, he first joined the Bellefonte and later State College, PA Police departments promoted to Sergeant, then acting Chief of Police until running for the office of District Justice in 1972. He served on the bench for 24 years until his retirement in 1996.

He married his wife of 45 years Lynda Bailey (Rodkey) on November 24, 1978 who survives along with their son, Michael, his father-in-law Merle Rodkey, brother-in-law Jeff Rodkey, and his brother, Robert Yorks of Virginia. He is preceded in his passing by his parents, and his older brother, Charles. He had 2 grandchildren, Addison and Wyatt as well as several nieces and nephews.

Upon his retirement Cliff and Lynda moved to Summerfield, Florida where he started a home watch and handyman service known as Watchful Eye, tending to homes that were vacated for the summer.

He was instrumental in building the Spruce Creek South Softball teams, serving many years as a team manager and president of the organization. An avid cook, he was well known for his various home canned sauces, salsas and more that he would give away to friends and neighbors. Cliff was an active member of Community United Methodist Church in Fruitland Park, FL serving as head usher for many years and served on the Spruce Creek advisory board for several years.

Services will be held at 11am Friday, April 26, 2024, at Community United Methodist Church; 308 College Ave, Fruitland Park, FL 34731. His final resting place will be at Florida National Cemetery.
