IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Hubert J.
Martini
November 3, 1952 – July 5, 2024
Hubert J Martini was born on November 3, 1952, in Strasbourg, Alsace, France to Fernande Frey and Maximilien Martini. The Martini family was a full household including siblings Francine, Christine, Jean Louis and Gilbert.
Hubert and siblings attended school in Strasbourg where he earned his Certificat d'etudes primaires and then went on to earn his Certificat d'Aptitude and Professionnelle de cuisine in 1969. Thus started his travels, first Vienna Austria, seasons in Switzerland interrupted by his mandatory French Military service in 1973 in Germany. He then continued his travels to Norway, the west coast of France and again multiple seasons in Switzerland. In 1977, he moved to the Montreal area in Quebec, Canada where he continued to succeed in various restaurants as Saucier, Chef de cuisine, Sous Chef and Executive Chef. In 1981, Hubert and family saw a return to France for personal reasons. In 1983, a job offer in Chicago, Illinois enticed our globe trotter to move to the USA and work as Executive Chef at the Executive House Hotel.
In 1986 he embarked on a new career. He became a respected faculty member at Kendall College in Evanston, Illinois. During his tenure, he was appointed Dean of Culinary Education. In 1999, Chef accepted a position as Lecturing Instructor of Culinary Arts, at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York. Chef taught many culinary classes including Culinary Skills, Fish Identification and Fabrication and his much loved specialty Garde Manger. Chef Martini was awarded Certified Executive Chef status by the American Culinary Federation and became a Certified Hospitality Educator while teaching at the College. Hubert was an integral part of the faculty until his retirement in May 2020. The president of the CIA was quoted as saying "Over the years, you have taught enthusiastically and patiently young students, how to transform humble ingredients into delicious profitable works of art. You focused on student success and the one-on-one mentoring and coaching you provided helped many students break barriers to achieve their personal best."
Retirement relocated Hubert and his wife Diane to the Villages in Florida where they enjoyed much camaraderie with former colleagues and friends. Hubert spent many happy times with his family here and on visits back home in Valleyfield Quebec with his son Rock and daughter Roxanne. Roxanne recalled that when her first child was only 18 months old, Hubert purchased a full chef outfit for him. He was completely invested in his family and much loved by them. He was a constant source of laughter, he loved to goof around with his grandchildren and friends.
Hubert is survived by his wife of almost 45 years (on July 30th) Diane, his son Rock, wife Nadine, grandchildren Gabriel, Samuel, Yohan, daughter Roxanne, grandchildren Mathias, Justin, Annaelle, his brother Jean Louis, wife Doris, niece Marie-Helene, her husband Frederic, their children Arthur, Garance and niece Anne-Laure. Hubert was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Francine, Christine and Gilbert as well as his son in law Richard.
A celebration of life will be held on August 10th, 2024 between 1:30 and 4:00 at the Eisenhower Recreation Center at 3560 Buena Vista Blvd, The Villages, Fl 32163
