Ireneusz A.
Gacikowski
Aug 3, 1949 — Aug 6, 2026
In Loving Memory of Ireneusz Andrzej Gacikowski
Ireneusz Andrzej Gacikowski of Sarasota, Florida, passed away on August 6, Anno Domini 2026, at the age of 77, on the Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord, in sunny Venice, Florida, surrounded by prayer and the love of his daughter.
Born in post-World War II Warsaw, Poland, on August 3, 1949, he remained a proud Warszawiak throughout his life. After emigrating to the United States in the 1980s, he briefly lived in Detroit, Michigan, before settling into an endless summer in Sarasota, Florida.
He had clear sky-blue eyes, a quick wit, and a sense of humor that could fill a room with laughter. He loved telling jokes, entertaining others, and sharing his contagious belly laugh, which brought joy to those around him. He enjoyed playing chess, solving puzzles, cooking, and fixing just about anything that was broken. Resourceful, thrifty, and practical, he believed in making the most of what he had.
Above all, he was a son, a brother, a father, and a friend. His Catholic faith remained an important part of his life, and in his final years he found comfort in the Catholic Church and her sacraments.
He was preceded in death by his father, Zdzislaw; his mother, Zofia; and his wife, Teresa.
He is survived by his sister, Elzbieta, who was born just one year and two days after him. The two shared a bond as close as twins throughout their childhood. He is also survived by his children, Piotr and Malgorzata; his stepdaughter, Anna; and his grandchildren and extended family, who will carry his memory forward.
A Catholic Mass celebrating Ireneusz’s life will be celebrated on Friday, October 23, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Epiphany Cathedral. Due to ongoing renovations, the Mass will take place in the Parish Center, with Rev. Michael Young presiding.
In lieu of flowers, honor Ireneusz by loving your family a little more fiercely, being a light in someone’s life, spreading joy, performing a random act of kindness, and praying for those who have no one to pray for. Life is short, and none of us knows how much time we have. So call the people you love. Make amends. Show up. Choose kindness. And never miss an opportunity to tell someone they matter.
May Ireneusz rest in the peace of Jesus Christ, and may perpetual light shine upon him.
Saint Irenaeus of Lyon, pray for Ireneusz.
