Obituary

Irvil L Rogers, 97 of Edgewater FL passed away Saturday, September 5, 2015. He was born the son of Cain and America Rogers. He was a poor Kentucky farm boy from a big family during the depression. He learned at an early age that hard work and perseverance were the keys in life. He flew multiple combat missions as a pilot during during WWII. He crashed in the English Channel where he broke his back and prayed any ship or boat would pick him up. Lucky for him it was an English ship that found him laid out on the wing of his plane. He decided after the war that he never wanted to fly again even though he held a commercial pilots license. Instead he felt it was his calling to teach kids and coach them in sports. He loved his family deeply and always had time to take me fishing. We talked about all of his great adventures. 97 years he walked this earth and today he moved on to the heavens. He leaves to cherish his memory his children Gary Rogers, Doug Rogers and Judy Strangle, brother Delmer, sister Mable Keith, five grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Nancy Katherine Pendleton Rogers in 2007. Funeral services will be 4:00 PM Thursday at Baldwin Brothers Heritage Place 1 North Causeway New Smyrna Beach FL followed by graveside military honors 10:00 AM Friday at Edgewater-New Smyrna Cemetery.
