Obituary

James W. Benton, a beloved father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2025, at the age of 64, in Fort Myers, Florida. Born on December 12, 1960, in Gary, Indiana, James was a man of deep character and varied interests, leaving a profound impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

James was the son of James W. Benton Sr. and Dorothy Heath, and he was preceded in death by his caring parents, his wife, and three siblings. He is survived by his only son, Josef, and three siblings, who will forever cherish his memory and the many moments they shared.

A proud Army veteran, James served his country honorably for six years, rising to the rank of Sergeant. His military service instilled in him a sense of discipline, honor, and commitment that he carried throughout his life.

James had a multitude of passions that defined his character and brought joy to his life. He was an avid fisherman, often spending his weekends on the water, where he found peace and happiness. His love for firearms was evident, as he enjoyed the sport and the skills involved. James was also a classic car enthusiast, taking pride in the beauty and craftsmanship of vintage vehicles.

While James' professional life is not detailed here, his legacy transcends any career. He was known for his kindness, humor, and zest for life, and these qualities drew people to him. Friends and family will remember him for his joyful spirit, warm heart, and the laughter he shared generously.

In honor of his life and the impact he made on those around him, memorial services will be private, allowing family and close friends to gather and reflect on the beautiful memories shared with James.

James W. Benton will be deeply missed, yet his spirit will live on in the hearts of his loved ones. As we remember him, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, laughter, and adventure. May he rest in peace.

A Graveside Service with Military Honors is scheduled for Friday, July 25 2025 at South Florida National Cemetery 6501 FL-7, Wellington, FL 33449.  Please take notice that the procession will begin in lane 1.
