IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James
Cushing
June 16, 1949 – October 17, 2024
James Michael Cushing, 75, passed away on October 17, 2024, at his home in Orlando, Florida. He is survived by his brother, Deacon Mike Cushing (Donna) of Chalfont, PA; his sister, Mary Cushing of Harrison, NJ; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved son, Liam James Cushing of Florida, and his parents, Joseph and Dorothy Cushing of Harrison, NJ.
Born in Harrison, NJ, James graduated from Essex Catholic High School and earned a degree in Accounting from Montclair State University. He dedicated over 40 years to his profession, retiring as Budget Director for the City of Kissimmee, Florida.
James was a sports enthusiast and a lifelong fan of the Yankees and the often-disappointing Giants. A true Harrisonian, he relished the "beautiful game" played by the Cosmos and later the "New Jersey" Red Bulls. He participated in baseball, basketball, weightlifting with his fellow Cellar Dwellers, karate with Sensei Doyle, long-distance bicycling, and especially tennis. By far, his favorite pastime was coaching soccer and tennis for his son Liam and others. James pursued his interests with passion. Not everything held his attention for long, but a few lasted a lifetime. His love for gardening was inspired by helping Grandma Fauroat with her yellow roses. His passion for photography began when his Uncle John gifted him a Kodak Brownie. James was often behind the camera, capturing joyful moments and famously prompting friends and family with a cheerful, "Say whiskey!"
James's greatest passion was his faith. From a young age as an altar boy at Holy Cross all the way through his retirement years, he was deeply committed to the Catholic Church. He was active in various ministries at Holy Family Catholic Church, including Eucharistic Minister, Bereavement and Men of Emmaus.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, November 11, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Holy Family Church, located at 5125 S. Apopka Vineland Road, Orlando, FL 32819. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in James' name to Holy Family Church at the above address.
