IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James "Cat
Daddy" Mills
October 27, 1963 – June 5, 2025
James Mills, affectionately known as "Cat Daddy," passed away peacefully at home after a six-year battle with early-onset Alzheimer's. He was 61. James is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Jennifer Mills (Newt), who stood faithfully by his side throughout his life and illness; his sisters, Elizabeth "Betsy" Strickland (Gary) and Kathleen Miller (Steve); and godson, Glenn Miller and nephew, Geoffrey Miller.
Born in Chicago, Illinois, James lived life on his own terms — with grit, humor, and an unstoppable entrepreneurial spirit. Over the years, he launched several successful businesses, including transmission shops and a marina, combining his love of engines with his talent for building something from nothing.
James was a self-taught guitarist, often joking that he played in a band "in his own mind" — a testament to his lighthearted nature and love for music. His passions were as powerful as the engines he admired. Boats, cars, trucks, motorcycles, planes, snowmobiles — if it ran on fuel and made noise, James had a place in his heart (and probably his garage) for it.
Beyond his business acumen and mechanical talents, James will be remembered most for his generous spirit. He was the kind of man who would give the shirt off his back, always ready to lend a hand, share a laugh, or offer a word of encouragement. His giving nature and vibrant personality left a lasting impact on everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Enjoy your cheeseburger in paradise!
James will be cremated, and a celebration of his life will be held at a future date to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites those wishing to honor James's memory to consider a donation to the Alzheimer's Association or a charity of their choice.
