Obituary

James Everett Dukes Jr., 80, of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, passed away on June 25th, 2026 at his home with his beloved wife by his side.

Jim dedicated 43 years of service as a lineman for FPL, where he was known for his unwavering work ethic, commitment to excellence, and willingness to help others. He approached every task with determination and took great pride in a job well done.

Beyond his career, Jim was a man of compassion, generosity, and humor. He had a quick wit, a kind heart, and a deep love for his family and friends. He found great joy in restoring classic cars and riding motorcycles. Two lifelong passions that reflected his adventurous spirit.

Jim proudly served his country as a United States Marine during the 1960s, earning the Expert Shooter Award for his outstanding marksmanship.

He is survived by his devoted wife, MaryAnn Dukes; his daughters, Sherry Michaelis, Stepdaughter AnnMarie Bateman (Will), Stepson Kenneth Zottoli, Granddaughter Brittni Michaelis, and Great Grandson Kyson Jackson.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Epiphany, 201 Lafayette Street, Port Orange, Florida 32127. A reception with light refreshments will follow in the church hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Tunnel to Towers Foundation.

Jim will be remembered for his strength, kindness, unwavering dedication, and the love he shared with those around him. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the friends whose lives he touched, and the countless memories he leaves behind.
