James "Jim" F. Scott, 88, of Silver Springs, FL passed away on March 5, 2024 at HCA-Ocala Hospital. Jim was born on April 2, 1935 to his parents, Chester and Harriet "Hattie" Scott, in Pitcarin, NY. After graduating high school and spending a year in California, he joined the US Navy and proudly served his country. Jim made rank of Chief Petty Officer (highest rank for a non-commissioned officer) by the age of 27. He later married the love of his life, Joanne, in 1982. They had 33 wonderful years together before her passing in 2015. Jim was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 4216, American Legion Post 0230, Fleet Reserve Branch #20, 32 degree Mason, Knights of Columbus, and a member of St. Joseph of the Forest Catholic Church. Jim loved to sing. He joined the church choir at St. Joseph's, and sang in Westminster Abbey & Carnegie Hall while touring with the Seacoast Community Chorus.

Jim is survived by sisters, Shelia Myers of Oswego, IL, Pearl Erdner of Colton, NY; niece, Cheryl Maraffio of Venice, FL; and many other nieces and nephews.

He is preceded by his parents; his brother, Wilfred "Scottie" Scott, of Gouverneur, N.Y.; and his sister, Jeannette Frank of Watertown, NY.

Jim's easy smile, love of life and openness endeared him to everyone he met. He will be sorely missed.

The funeral Mass will be at 10 am on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at St. Joseph of the Forest Catholic Church, 17301 E. SR 40, Silver Springs, FL 34488. A Celebration of Jim's life will follow in the Parish Hall after Mass. Inurnment will be held on Monday, April 15, 2024 at 1:30pm at Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102nd Avenue, Bushnell, FL 33513.
