James (Jim) Ernest McCutcheon Sr, 80, of Palm Coast, Florida, went home to the Lord on February 13, 2026. Jim was born on March 14, 1945, in Pensacola, Florida to James & Bette Harris. After he graduated from college in St. Petersburg, FL, he moved to Vero Beach and went to work for Piper Aircraft Corporation in the engineering department as a designer. At this time, he got his pilots license and spent many happy hours in the air flying single and multi-engine aircraft.

Then the Vietnam war came and he joined the Army where he was a Combat Engineer. He was also TDY to the Navy where he underwent diver training along with Explosive Ordinance Deposal. He was sent to Vietnam from 1969-1970. Jim was a proud veteran and loved our country.

Upon his return, he moved to Atlanta, Georgia and worked for Sullair for 28 years as a Regional Manager where he sold capital industrial equipment, specifically rotary screw air compressors. In his spare time, Jim enjoyed sailing in the British Virgin Islands. He retired in 2005 and moved back to Florida. He met his wife, Carolyn, in 2011 and they have been in Palm Coast since 2014, which is when he picked up his love for golf.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn McCutcheon; two sons, James McCutcheon Jr and Justin McCutcheon and families; his sister, Linda Wise; and step-son, Scott Dippel & Family and numerous grandchildren.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at Santa Maria del Mar Catholic Church, 915 N Central Ave., Flagler Beach, FL 32136.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Vietnam Veterans of America or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
