Obituary

James Joseph Keller, a beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2025, at the age of 88, in Lehigh Acres, Florida. Born on May 2, 1937, in Jersey City, New Jersey, James lived a life rich in love, creativity, and dedication to his family and community.

James was the son of Charles and Helen Keller, who nurtured his adventurous spirit and strong work ethic. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Charles Keller, who had a significant impact on his formative years. James carried forward the values instilled in him by his family, cherishing the bonds that sustained him throughout his life.

A Navy veteran, James proudly served his country, embodying the honor and bravery that marked his military service. After returning from his time in the Navy, he dedicated himself to his work and the people he loved. His employment history included a significant tenure as a Maintenance Technician at South Seas Plantation for 13 years, followed by a few years with First Home Builders. James was known for his remarkable ability to fix anything in the house and his talent for crafting beautiful items out of wood, from cabinets to charming signs. His handiwork was a testament to his creativity and skill, earning him the admiration of family and friends alike.

James was not only a diligent worker; he was also a man of many interests. He had a deep affection for lighthouses, which symbolize guidance and hope, and cherished his collection of Lionel Trains, reflecting his love for the intricate and the nostalgic. A fan of country music, he often found solace in its melodies, connecting with the stories and emotions conveyed through the songs. Above all, James treasured his family—the cornerstone of his life. He is survived by his devoted wife, Catherine Keller, and his sons, James Keller Jr., Michael Smith, Dennis Smith, and Kevin Keller. Each of them carries forward his legacy of love, strength, and resilience.

James was known for his warm heart, quick wit, and ability to make those around him feel special. He had a unique talent for bringing joy to simple moments and was always eager to lend a helping hand to others. His kindness and generosity will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, July 31 from 1-3pm at Baldwin Brothers Funeral Home (4320 Colonial Blvd Ft. Myers FL 33966).

As we remember James Joseph Keller, we celebrate a life well-lived—a life filled with love, creativity, and unwavering dedication to family. His memory will forever shine brightly in the hearts of those he leaves behind, guiding them just as the lighthouses he admired once guided weary travelers. James, you will be deeply missed, but your spirit will continue to inspire and warm our hearts for years to come.
