James “Jim” Leroy Miller passed away on August 12, 2026, at age 77 in Sarasota, Florida. Jim was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1962, and his love for Jehovah God shaped his entire life. Jim loved cooking, storytelling, and sharing meals with loved ones. He faced life’s joys and losses with tenderness, loyalty, and unwavering faith.

In 1967, he began four years of volunteer Bethel service at the world headquarters of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Brooklyn, New York. He worked in the kitchen and often shared fond memories from those years. After returning to Grand Haven, Michigan, Jim married Helen Bonnici in 1975. They welcomed two sons, James and Michael. Jim worked hard to care for his family and passed along many practical lessons—like how to cook pancakes for 300 people. After Helen’s passing, Jim married Carolyn Kufta in 1988, beginning a loving 35-year partnership filled with family, faith and many happy memories.

Jim worked as a Quality Assurance Technician at Challenge Machinery Company where he was known for his honesty, strong work ethic, and daily consistency — right down to eating the same breakfast and lunch every day. He also devoted countless hours to his congregation, earning deep respect from his fellow worshippers.

After retiring early, Jim and Carolyn moved to Playa del Coco, Costa Rica, as volunteer bible teachers. They often said those were the happiest years of their lives. In 2016, they relocated to Sarasota to care for Carolyn’s mother and enjoyed being part of the Metropolitan Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Jim will be remembered as a spiritual man who faithfully loved and served his God, Jehovah. His hope was firmly rooted in the Bible’s promise of a future free from death. (Revelation 21:3,4) We share his confidence that Jehovah will remember him. (Hebrews 6:10; John 5:28,29; 11:24)

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and June; his sister, Susan; and his wife Helen and later his wife, Carolyn. He is survived by his brother Steve (Lianne), his sons James (Chrissy) and Michael (Michelle), and grandchildren Hailey, Zach, and Kaden.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 16251 Robbins Rd, Grand Haven, Michigan. Zoom arrangements will also be available.
