JAMES ALFRED MORELAND OBITUARY

James (Jim) Moreland, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away in Winter Park on February 10, 2025. He was born in Newark, NJ on April 5, 1940 to Alfred Johnston Moreland and Dorothy Jackson Moreland. Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Vose Moreland of Winter Park, FL, daughters Kelly Lynn Moreland, Orlando FL, Kymberly Cushing Moreland-Garnett (Steven), Winter Park, FL, Jennifer Moreland Keys (David), Allen, TX, grandchildren Dorothy and Evelyn Jane Garnett, Harrison and Liam Keys. and sister Judith Moreland Granger (Sylvester Robert) of Georgetown, TX. Jim is preceded in death by his parents. Jim graduated with honors from Brown University, Providence, RI with a BA in Political Science, a JD from University of Chicago Law School and his LLM from Boston University. He moved to Central Florida in 1967 and practiced law in Orlando and Winter Park before joining the State of Florida DOT and the Orange County Attorney's Office as an eminent domain attorney. He served as a municipal judge, as a member of the Orange County Bar Association, on the boards of the Florida Board of Bar Examiners, the National Conference of Bar Examiners, the Winter Park Planning and Zoning Commission, and the Winter Park Civil Service Board. He was a member of the Meridian Club, the Orlando Track Club, coached hurdlers at Lake Highland Prep School, and volunteered at Junior Achievement, Seniors Against Crime and the State Attorney's Office. The celebration of Jim's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to the Salvation Army of Orlando or World Central Kitchen.
