James A. Oker "Kuka" passed away October 26, 2021 he was 75. Born in Chicago on January 10, 1946 to Alexander and Laura (Elder) Oker. Jim was devoted to his family and country having served in the Navy on the U.S.S. CONY-DD508 FROM 1966-68 and in the Army Reserve 685 th transportation unit in Lake Station, Indiana from 1974-91. He was a Vietnam Veteran and a lifetime VFW member.
He attended Chicago's Bogan high school as well as Daley College and was employed at Roadway Express from 1987 until he retired in 2011 as a 710 Teamster member.
James was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Patricia Coppenbarger (Rosas) and brother-in-law Donald. He his survived by his wife, of 49 years Nijole (Viscius), son Michael, daughters Eva Warren (Chris) and Laura Love (Jason) as well as grandchildren Stephanie, Alex and Savanna and great grandson Draven. Also survived by brother Robert Rosas, his wife Deborah and many nieces and nephews.
He enjoyed traveling in his camper and later an RV taking many trips all over the country. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Hospice of Marion County. They provided immeasurable support at this most difficult time.
A Memorial Service with Navy Honors will take place on Friday, February 11, 2022 at 10:30am at Florida National Cemetery 6502 SW 102nd Ave, Bushnell, FL 33513.
