James Edward Pomerleau, 82, of Cape Coral, Florida, passed away Sunday, October 25, 2026. “Jim” was born in Lowell, MA, to Virginia and Ed Pomerleau. He graduated from Chelmsford High School and attended Clarkson University in Potsdam, New York, where he met his bride, Bonnie Lynn, at a mixer dance. They shared 64 wonderful years together.

Jim designed and built their home in Westford, MA, where they raised their three children, Brett, Jason, and Julie. He worked as an electrical engineer at Raytheon for 17 years before founding his own company, Laser Productions, in Chelmsford.

Jim and Bonnie’s dream of living on the water started at Lake Winnipesaukee where they built a cottage on Dow Island and enjoyed 35 years of wonderful memories with family and dear friends. They later retired to Cape Coral, where Jim continued to enjoy his love of fishing and boating on the Gulf.

When Jim wasn’t on the water, he loved working on or fixing just about anything. He especially enjoyed building and flying remote-controlled planes, taking great joy in watching them soar overhead—and even getting a thrill when they crashed. His most recent and cherished triumph was building a house with his son Brett, a project filled with hard work, pride, and lasting memories.

Jim will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, Bonnie Lynn; son Brett Pomerleau and daughter-in-law Laurie Pomerleau of Bokeelia, FL; son Jason Pomerleau and daughter-in-law Meghan Hebert of Westford, MA; daughter Julie Smith (Pomerleau) and son-in-law Chet Smith of Ona, WV; grandchildren Ashley Gledhill (Pomerleau), Jake Pomerleau, Rob Pomerleau, Lauren Baker (Pomerleau), Hayden Smith, and Ava Pomerleau; great-grandchildren Meredith Gledhill, Nora Gledhill, and Beau Baker; and the many dear friends who brought a lifetime of cherished memories.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Florida in the spring of 2027.
