Obituary

James Richard Propp, born Sept. 20, 1934, went to his eternal home on March 12, 2025. James was born in Missouri to Nellie and Harry Propp. Jim grew up in Kansas where he served as senior class president and was a football standout.  Jim and his high school sweetheart, Peggy (Hayward), got married and, in 1962, moved to Ft. Myers, FL where Jim and his brothers had a trucking business hauling fill for the construction of Alligator Alley. After selling the business, he went to barber college and owned a barbershop on Ft. Myers Beach. Selling the barbershop, Jim and Peg relocated to Owl Creek where Jim became caretaker.  They spent over 20 years on the island, enjoying every minute, until they decided they wanted to travel and purchased a 5th wheel RV. They spent several years exploring, spending a lot of time in Brevard, NC before relocating back to Ft. Myers.  Jim was an avid outdoorsman, loved snook fishing, scuba diving, and hunting with his children and grandchildren all of whom have their own stories and memories to be treasured. Jim was a super handyman and a jack of all trades; he loved to bake cookies, do puzzles, woodworking, and tell a story with "Jim humor" and great smile. Jim was a member of McGregor Baptist Church for over 50 years.

He is survived by his three children James M. (Debbie), Julie (Chris), and Jodi (Hope), 6 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren (soon to be 11), and brother Charles. He is preceded in death by his wife Peggy, parents, brother Robert, and sister Bettie.  He will be honored with a private celebration of life by his family.
