Obituary

James R. Schoettler, 86, of New Smyrna Beach died peacefully late Friday, May 6, 2011 with his daughter by his side.  Mr. Schoettler was born March 23, 1925 in Appleton, Wisconsin, and graduated from Appleton High School in 1943.  He served in the United States Marine Corp for many years, graduating from Purdue University in Lafayette, Indiana, in 1946 while in the Marines.  He received a doctorate from the Institute of Paper Chemistry in Appleton, WI in 1948, and made his career as a chemical engineer, working for such companies as Kimberly-Clark, Great Northern-Nekoosa, and Georgia Pacific.  He had a life long interest in flying, having obtained his private pilot's license while a college student.  He was married to Harriet Himes in 1948, with whom he had three children, all of who survive him: Kathryn Schoettler of New Smyrna Beach; Thomas and Gwen Schoettler of New Smyrna Beach; and Karen Schoettler of Sutter Creek, California.  He is also survived by three grandchildren.  He was married in 1972 to Ann Odell Douglass, who preceded him in death in 2009.  The Schoettlers had resided in Wisconsin prior to retiring to New Hampshire and then to Florida, where they resided in Ponce Inlet.  Private services will be held
