Obituary

Dr. James A. Seal passed away June 15, 2020, after a long battle with cancer. He was born May 20, 1942, in Anderson to John and Ruth Seal. He was an optometrist in Anderson for nearly 50 years. "Doc," as he was called by his patients, always had a smile on his face and always had time to get the job done right.

He was a graduate of Anderson High School in 1960 and the IU School of Optometry in 1965. He met and married his college sweetheart Joan and was married to his true love for 55 years.

Jim's two passions were bargain hunting and fishing. After over 40 trips to the Canadian North, including the Northwest Territories, he will be sorely missed by his second family, his fishing buddies. He was the heart and soul of these trips—organizing, leading and thoroughly enjoying the adventures—which is why he was known to them simply as "Thee Chairman."

Jim is survived by his wife, Joan M. Seal; two daughters, Angela Hobbs of Wisconsin; Leanne (Chad) Asher of Ft. Wayne; 4 grandchildren, Caden and Nicole Hobbs of Wisconsin; and Courtney and Justin Asher of Ft. Wayne. Brothers, Tom (Susan) Seal, Don (Deb) Seal, J.D. (Lori) Seal and several nieces and nephews: Jenn Seal, Robb (Kate) Seal; Zane Seal; Louie (Courtney) Seal; Beckie (Richard) Petit; and Jama (Brian) Carter.

Only private services are planned at this time because of COVID-19 restrictions.
