Jane Rutledge McCartha, née Bliven, passed away unexpectedly on March 16, 2026, in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. Born on April 20, 1959, in Winter Park, Florida, Jane lived a vibrant and full life until the age of 66.
A beloved daughter of Helene Dietz Bliven and Fritz Rizzardi Bliven, Jane was a cherished member of her family and community. She graduated from Rollins College in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Sciences, reflecting her dedication to learning and passion for the world around her.
Jane embraced life with enthusiasm—an avid adventurer, baker, and talented chefette, she delighted in expressing her creativity through culinary arts. Her artistic talents extended beyond the kitchen: she was an accomplished ballerina and tap dancer, a devoted reader, and a true fashionista. Above all, Jane treasured spending precious time with her beloved sons, grandchildren, and family, embodying the roles of devoted mom, Mimi, and Sissy to those closest to her.
She was a proud member of the Kappa Delta Sorority at the University of Florida since 1978 and a faithful Episcopalian who found spiritual home at All Saints Church in Winter Park.
Jane’s warmth and kindness touched many lives, including those of her family members who survive her: her sons William McCartha and Duncan McCartha, along with William’s wife Alexandra and their children Isla, Gwyneth, and Berke; Duncan’s life partner Shauna Lea and their son Duncan Reese; her sister Alexandra Bliven; and cousins Michelle Dietz Procaccini and Clayton (Bogie) Dietz.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved Nana Ruth Estelle Dietz, grandfather Harold Rutledge Bliven, and uncle Clayton Dietz.
A visitation to honor Jane’s life will be held on April 9th from 6 to 8 p.m., followed by a funeral service officiated by The Reverend Stuart Shelby on April 10th at 11 a.m., both at All Saints Church, located at 338 Lyman Avenue, Winter Park, Florida. She will be laid to rest at Palm Cemetery in Winter Park.
Friends and family wishing to send flowers or donations may do so through Baldwin Brothers Funeral Home at 1654 N. Semoran Blvd, Orlando, Florida. For further information, please contact her sister Alexandra Bliven at 516-241-3985 or visit 940 W Canton Ave, Apt B335, Winter Park, FL 32789.
Jane’s life was a beautiful tapestry of love, artistry, and devotion. Though taken from us too soon, her spirit, kindness, and the joyful memories she created will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
