Janet Dale (Cook)
Kanvin
Jul 1, 1949 — Aug 13, 2026
Janet Dale (Cook) Kanvin died peacefully on August 13. She was 77 years old.
Janet was born on July 1, 1949, in Mount Kisco, New York, to the late Everett and Frances Cook. Growing up on a farm, she developed a lifelong love of animals and participated in 4-H. She graduated from Onteora High School, where she was a member of the Color Guard, and later attended Ulster County Community College, earning a degree in Business Administration.
While living in Kingston, New York, Janet met her husband, Bruce. They were happily married for 54 years. Janet and Bruce made their home in Olivebridge, New York, for 37 years, where they raised their two children, Kelli and Scott. Janet taught Sunday School when her children were young and was always actively involved in their lives.
Janet began her career in the insurance field before joining Rotron as a financial representative, where she worked for 25 years.
Janet had a strong interest in crafts, particularly pottery and ceramics. She enjoyed gardening and landscaping and took pride in creating and caring for the spaces around her home. Janet enjoyed genealogy and developed an enthusiasm for preserving her family history. She was an avid reader and the family photographer, always making sure that gatherings and special occasions were captured on film. She especially loved cooking and baking and was known for her lemon bars and for hosting Christmas Eve dinners. Janet was strong-willed, deeply devoted to her family, and, to the end, never developed a taste for vegetables.
She is survived by her husband, Bruce Kanvin; daughter, Kelli Kanvin, and husband, Edward Miller; son, Scott Kanvin, and partner, Erin O’Hanlon; grandchildren Sean Patrick and Everett James; sister Amy Rutledge and husband, Jerry; and brother William Cook and wife, Pat.
Janet will be interred at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida. Services will be private.
