Janet Mae
LoBianco
February 10, 1936 – April 26, 2026
Janet Mae LoBianco (Van Brunt / Scott), of Summerfield, Florida, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 26, 2026, at the age of 90. She was surrounded by the love of her family throughout her life, which continued to the very end, with her oldest daughter, Judy, lovingly holding her hand as she passed.
Janet was born on February 10, 1936, in Long Branch, New Jersey. She was the only child of Kenneth and Agnes Van Brunt and was raised in Eatontown. She often helped her parents and grandparents in the family businesses; at the bowling alley on Broad Street, and at her grandfather’s Fish & Chips on Route 35.
She was very close to her parents and would often reminisce about catching eels with her father Kenny in the Navesink and Shrewsbury Rivers as a young child.
Janet attended the school formerly known as Steelman School in Eatontown and subsequently graduated from Long Branch High School. She later completed nursing school and became a registered nurse, a role that reflected her lifelong compassion and care for others.
Janet had a deep love for the water. As a young girl, she could often be found riding the waves at the beach in Long Branch. In later years, she enjoyed hosting pool parties at her home on Lafetra Ave. She cherished time spent with extended family, including nieces and nephews, at the pool and also at the Scott family cabin in Lake Owassa.
As a member of the United Methodist Church, Janet sang in the choir and performed with the bell choir. She was also a lifelong member of the Order of the Eastern Star, having joined in her teens as a Rainbow Girl. In recent years, she was honored with her 70-year membership pin.
Janet was married for 17 years to Joseph Scott, and in the mid-1970s she met her second husband Charles LoBianco through Parents Without Partners (PWP). Together, Janet and Charlie became founding members of Second Time Around (STA), a social group for remarried couples that met through PWP. The friendships they formed endured for decades, and Janet was one of the last surviving members of that close-knit group.
Prior to moving to Florida in 2024, Janet spent her life in New Jersey, residing in Eatontown, then Martinsville, and then Whitehouse Station. She enjoyed being active. Some of her passions were gardening, playing cards, making greeting cards, working on jigsaw puzzles, and entertaining.
She was very involved with Single Senior Women (SSW) of Somerset County, and participated in the Visiting Nurse’s Association (VNA) rummage sales.
Janet remained active well into her late 80s. At age 86, she swam with a dolphin at Discovery Cove, an experience she thoroughly enjoyed. She had a contagious zest for life and was known for her welcoming smile and kind, friendly nature.
She is survived by her three children: daughter Judy Gerbig and her husband, Michael, of Summerfield, Florida; daughter Jamie Schenck and her husband, Michael, of Summerfield, Florida; and son Jeffrey Scott of Greenwich, Connecticut. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Charles LoBianco.
At her request, no formal services will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the New Jersey Eastern Star Home, 111 Finderne Ave, Bridgewater, New Jersey, 08807.
