Janet G. Samsel, 73, of Ocala, Florida, passed away on August 5, 2026.

Janet was born on December 20, 1952, in Ashtabula, Ohio, to Len and Viola Todd. She was married to her husband, David W. Samsel, for 45 years, and together they built a life centered above all else around their family.

Janet devoted herself to her family and to creating a loving home for her husband and children. She was happiest when her family was together, whether for a holiday gathering, a simple visit, or a family vacation. Although she was never particularly fond of traveling itself, she loved the experiences, memories, and time together that family vacations created. For Janet, the destination was never as important as having the people she loved beside her.

Family always came first. She gave her time, energy, and heart to those closest to her, often placing their needs before her own. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother whose love for her family was evident not through a desire for attention or recognition, but through the countless ways she cared for them throughout her life.

Janet had a wonderfully direct and sarcastic sense of humor. She could deliver a remark that left everyone laughing while still managing to make the love behind it unmistakable. She sometimes joked that she “hated people,” yet those who knew her understood the contradiction well: beneath her sarcasm and candor was an exceptionally loving and compassionate heart.

She had little interest in being the center of attention and famously disliked having her picture taken. What mattered to Janet was not photographs or recognition, but the memories and experiences themselves—the moments spent together that her family will continue to carry with them.

Janet was also an intense animal lover, with a special place in her heart for pets. Her compassion for animals was an important part of who she was. She also enjoyed pistol target shooting and was an exceptionally good shot, a talent her family knew well and will remember fondly.

Janet is survived by her husband David Samsel; her two daughters: Brianna Considine and husband Justin; Erin Ferrell; and her son Wesley Samsel and wife Amanda.

She is also survived by her six grandchildren: Kayla Chrisman and Savanna Considine; Austin Scot and Skylar Jade; and Grayson Samsel and Harper Samsel.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Len and Viola Todd.

More than anything, Janet will be remembered for the fierce love she had for her family, her compassion, her unmistakable sense of humor, and the importance she placed on simply being together. The memories created during those years—the gatherings, vacations, laughter, conversations, and ordinary moments shared as a family—are the legacy she leaves behind.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Janet’s memory to the National Humane Society.
