Janice Lynne Porter, 83, of North Port, Florida, passed away on March 21, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. Janice was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on November 26, 1942, to the late Cliff and Marion Gibbon. She was raised in Detroit, Michigan.

In addition to her parents, Janice is preceded in death by her brother Gert, and niece Debra.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Lawrence Porter, her four daughters, Anna, Sean, Gena and Kely, four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

In 1974 she made Florida her home. She worked for many years as a dedicated server mostly at the original oyster bars of Sarasota. She then finished her career as a public servant for the city of North Port. Jan was an avid reader who cherished a quiet life at home, especially when surrounded by her family. In her younger years she enjoyed fishing and boating alongside her beloved husband of 41 years. Together they participated in numerous fishing tournaments around Florida, where they either won or placed. Above all else, Janice loved the Lord and lived her life grounded in faith. Her infectious smile and calming presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Her memorial service will be held at 11:00AM on June 20, 2026, at Sarasota Christian Church located at 2923 Ashton Rd in Sarasota. All are welcome to attend.
