Obituary

Jarvis Williams, a visionary entrepreneur, devoted husband, and proud patriarch, passed

away peacefully on Tuesday, April 21, 2026 surrounded by his family. Born in Rushford, New

York, Jarvis moved with his family to the Rosedale Park neighborhood of Northwest Detroit at

the age of ten, beginning a lifelong connection to the Michigan community.

Education and Service

Jarvis’s pursuit of excellence began with his education. He attended Michigan State

University, where he found lifelong brotherhood as a member of the Psi Upsilon Fraternity.

He later transitioned to Lawrence Technological University, where he earned his degree in

Electrical Engineering—a foundation that would pave the way for his future as an innovator in

the security industry.

A Lasting Business Legacy

In 1967, Jarvis turned his engineering expertise into a professional reality by founding

Detection Systems & Engineering. His commitment to quality and security allowed the

company to thrive for over five decades. He lived to see his company become a true family

legacy, transitioned first to his son, Gerald, and now continuing into a third generation with his

grandson, Jerry II.

Family and Life

This coming fall would have marked 53 years of marriage between Jarvis and his beloved

wife, Eleanor. Their partnership served as the bedrock of the family, characterized by a

shared history and a deep commitment to one another.

Jarvis was a man who built things to last—whether it was a complex security system, a

successful business, or the family he cherished. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work,
